Unite Red Ale release party on Friday, April 10

The Pink Boots Society is dedicated to one simple mission: empowering women beer professionals to advance their careers in the beer industry through education. The local chapter of this non-profit organization formed just a few months ago and hit the ground running. See our previous posts about the Pink Boots Society.

March 8th was International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day, a day upon which dozens and dozens of breweries around the world hosted collaborative brewing sessions. In Washington, six breweries fired up the kettles. The resulting beers will be tapped this Friday at Spinnaker Bay Brewing in Seattle.

Below we share more details about the beers and the event. The Washington breweries involved included Hale’s Ales Brewery, Pike Brewing, Elysian Brewing, Fremont Brewing, Dick’s Brewing and Birdsview Brewing.

Official Announcement:

The release party for the different versions of ‘Unite Red Ale’ will be held from 6-8pm on Friday, April 10th at Spinnaker Bay Brewing Co.  The Seattle Chapter of PBS felt that Spinnaker was an ideal location to host the official release party as it is a female-owned brewery.  Although this brew was to celebrate women in beer, both men and women are encouraged to join the party!  Proceeds will go to the Pink Boots Society, an international non-profit organization comprised of more than 1,700 women working in the beer industry with the mission to empower women beer professionals to advance their careers through education.

Here are the official descriptions of each Unite Red Ale:

Hale’s Ale Brewing’s Unite Red Ale:  The Hale’s version of the “Unite Red Ale” was split into two batches. Both batches were brewed with 2-row, C120, Vienna, Munich, Red X, and a small amount of Carafa III for color, with WIllamette hops used for aroma and Bravo for a stronger hop flavor. For some fun variety, one batch was fermented with house ale yeast and the other batch was fermented with Pilsner yeast. 4.6% ABV, 50 IBUs.

Elysian Brewing’s Unite Red Ale:  A black raspberry Berliner Weisse made with 50% wheat and 2.5lbs raspberries per barrel.  4.0% ABV, 5 IBUs.

Fremont Brewing Unite Pale Ale:  Brewed using Fremont’s house yeast, Golden Promise malt, UK East Kent Goldings and Citra hops, Fremont’s Unite Pale Ale has notes of citrus and stone fruit accompanied by a grassy character and a soft mouthfeel.  6.0% ABV, 40 IBUs.
Tin Dog’s United Red Ale:

Tin Dog Brewing Unite Red Ale: Affectionately known as Renegade Red,  brewed with 2-row, Munich, Carastan, C80 and C120 for a rich caramel flavor and bittered with Willamette and Magnum with Crystal and Cascade hops to finish for a classic American Red Ale flavor.  5.4% ABV, 50 IBUs.

Birdsview Brewing:  (TBA).
