Bron Yr Aur Brewing among the top winners at this year’s competition
Event organizers recently announced the winners of this year’s Best of Craft Beer Awards. Washington breweries enjoyed an impressive showing again this year (listed below). Among Washington’s winners, Bron Yr Aur Brewing of Naches led the way with a particularly impressive showing, bringing home five medals. There were only a couple other breweries in the competition who did better than that.
Held each winter in Bend, Oregon, the Best of Craft Beer Awards is described as the nation’s fastest-growing beer competition, inviting breweries from across the nation to submit beer for judging. It’s not as big or prestigious as the Great American Beer Festival, but it is still significant.
- Over 2,000 beers were submitted to the competition from breweries across the country. (International submissions are also permitted.)
- 162 breweries from 33 states took home medals in 90 categories.
- A total of 262 medals were awarded by a panel of BJCP judges and guest judges from the craft beer industry.
- The most-contested category was American Style IPA with 125 entries. Next, the Hazy or Juicy IPA category saw 97 entries. The least-contested category was American-Style Black Ale, which saw just nine entries. On average, about 26 beers submitted in each of the 90 categories.
Before you get your barley in a bunch, remember that we do not know what breweries did not entered the competition. A brewery must proactively enter these competitions. Maybe your favorite Mixed-Culture Brett Beer was not even in the running for a medal. That’s just the way these things work. Breweries pick and choose which competitions to enter; some breweries choose to abstain from competitions.
Here are the Washington breweries that earned hardware at the 2019 Best of Craft Beer Awards.
