Washington breweries win big at U.S. Open Beer Championships

Once again, Washington’s breweries showed well at the recently concluded U.S. Open Beer Championships. Based on the success of its submissions, Reuben’s Brews of Seattle earned honors as the number two brewery in this year’s competition, behind only Sun King Brewing of Indianapolis, Indiana. Congratulations to the crew at Reuben’s! That’s quite an honor.

Other local winners included Bron Yr Aur Brewing (three medals), Pike Brewing, 20 Corners Brewing, Brothers Cascadia Brewing, and Ghostfish Brewing. Results were announced last week. Below I share the list of Washington winners, including the beers and the categories in which they won. I also share the complete list of all winners.

Not every brewery submits beers to this, or any, competition. You cannot win if you don’t enter, and perhaps your favorite brewery chose to sit this one out, as many breweries do. That does not diminish the value of these medals; breweries from around the world submitted more than 7,000 beers for judging in 130 different style categories. We do not know which breweries did or did not enter. We only know which breweries won.
