This Weekend: Washington Beer Open House & More

This is a big weekend for those of us who love beer.

UPDATE (2/20) – I’m adding information at the end of this post about what individual breweries are doing for Open House. Some of them, anyway. Breweries, please feel welcome to leave comments and tell us what you have planned.

  • Friday and Saturday, you can sample a bunch of beer and a bunch of Whiskey at the Hop Scotch Beer & Scotch Festival (blog sponsor) in Fremont. The event features beers from 30 different breweries and more Whiskey than you can shake your fist at. There is even a “whiskey lunch.” Visit the official website for tickets and more details.
  • Saturday at the Beveridge Place Pub (blog sponsor), the 11th Annual Barleywine Bacchanal kicks off when the doors open at noon. The celebration lasts for a week. We reported on it here and included a list of the amazing selection of Barleywines. In all 30 taps will be dedicated to the biggest, baddest-ass of all brews.
  • Saturday is also the official Washington Beer Open House (Noon til 5:00). Organized by the Washington Beer Commission, this statewide event sees breweries opening their doors and inviting beer lovers to come in for a behind-the-scenes look at the beer. Each brewery will have a different offering. Check with the official Washington Beer Open House website to see who is involved. Check with each brewery to see exactly what’s up. If you are out there tweeting somewhere, use #WABeerOH.

Here are some Open House examples: In Bellingham, a shuttle bus will transport you from one brewery to the next (Boundary Bay, Chuckanut, and Kulshan). In Seattle, Schooner Exact Brewing is roasting a pig and offering barrel-aged beer pairings, brewery tours, a two-year vertical of bourbon imperial porter + a sour. In Redmond, at Black Raven Brewing the brewery will be open for your viewing pleasure and they will be previewing their 2012 Wheat Wine as well as offering their award-winning Old Birdbrain Barleywine for onsite consumption and also to go. Those are just three of the many, many examples. I encourage you to check with your favorite breweries and see what’s up. Keep an eye on the official website. Make use of the map.
